Every now and then, and in some cases extremely rarely, something comes along to shake up the system. It happens across all mediums; films, books, television and, even more rarely, in gaming. Demon’s Souls crept onto the scene just before the turn of the decade exclusively to Playstation 3. Made in Sony’s Japan Studio the game launched to very little fanfare – exclusively released in Asian regions the game slowly trickled onto western shores through keen gamers looking to import unusual games.
The game developed a cult following and importers began to bring the game over en masse. The publishers responded, all looking to sign the cult game up. The sequel, Dark Souls, capitalised on the rampant fan support and released across Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC and had massive critical success as well. Since then the Souls series has blossomed – with downloadable content, a second Dark Souls game and more in the pipeline.
