Blizzard COO Paul Sams is “excited” to determine what Valve does inside the lounge space with its new line of Steam Machines, the chief told GameSpot at BlizzCon last night.
“I’m excited to work out what they do, to be honest,” Sams said. “Obviously with Steam, they’ve done good stuff; they are a talented group. And that i would say that if anybody’s going so that it will do it, it might be them.”
Sams went directly to praise Valve further, saying the corporate has a proven track record of delivering compelling services and products, and Steam Machines may be their next hit.
“i feel Valve is a very great company,” Sams said. “i believe [Valve cofounder Gabe Newell] and his team have consistently and frequently done great stuff, and that i think if anybody could do it, they are able to.”
A type of Steam Machines, from Valve and various other manufacturers, could be available in 2014. Valve has also created its own controller for the system, featuring trackpads in favor of traditional thumbsticks.
Blizzard isn’t the only company to be taking note of what Valve does within the lounge space. Platform holders Microsoft and Sony have both commented at the technology, with Microsoft saying Valve’s road into the lounge won’t be without problems.
